Hello, I helped to start this blog out of a desire for a place to dialogue faithfully, charitably and honestly about spiritual formation. For me personally, this means asking both theological as well as practical questions. Right now I'm working on my Ph.D in systematic theology at the University of Aberdeen, and so my mind tends towards the theological questions. I think this is particularly important at this stage of the conversation, because the theological foundation will drive the whole conversation, whether we know it (or admit it) or not. My hope is to help create a spiritual theology that takes into account true and faithful life under God and all the various facets of my life are oriented towards that end. My dissertation topic is on Jonathan Edwards' theology of redemption, which has, thankfully, allowed me to work through some of these issues sitting at the feet of one of our most spiritual theologians.
With Jamin Goggin, I helped start Metamorpha.com, the vision of which stems from the desire mentioned above. We see this blog as an extension of that ministry, and we hope to see them integrated in a variety of ways in the future. I wrote the book Metamorpha: Jesus as a way of life (Baker, April 2007), and my current research is looking into the theology of Jonathan Edwards as an example of a Protestant doing spiritual theology. My wife Kelli and I live in Aberdeen, Scotland and continue to enjoy the quiet pace of life in the granite city.
